Fine Arts at SFA
Band
SFA offers an advanced Band program for students in grades 7 and 8, designed to further expand musical knowledge and performance skills. Students continue to refine their technique, strengthen their understanding of music theory, and grow as ensemble performers. Students deepen their musical expression, improve sight-reading abilities, and develop greater confidence as musicians. This program encourages teamwork, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts while preparing students for continued musical opportunities beyond middle school.
Music Appreciation
SFA offers a Music Appreciation course for students in our 2-year old program through 6th grade, designed to build a strong foundation in understanding and enjoying music. Through engaging lessons, students explore a wide variety of musical styles, instruments, and cultures while learning the basic elements of music such as rhythm, melody, harmony, and form. Students actively listen, respond, and participate in musical activities that foster creativity and a deeper appreciation for the role music plays in worship, culture, and everyday life. This course helps students develop critical listening skills and a lifelong love of music in a fun, interactive, and meaningful way.
Choir
SFA’s 7th and 8th Grade Choir provides students with the opportunity to develop their vocal abilities while experiencing the joy of making music together. Under the direction of our dedicated music teacher, Mrs. Chelsea Negray-Piecuch, students build strong foundational skills in healthy singing technique, music reading, and ensemble performance.
Through a variety of sacred, classical, and contemporary selections, students expand their musical knowledge, refine their vocal expression, and learn to perform as a unified choral ensemble. Participation in choir fosters confidence, teamwork, discipline, and a deeper appreciation for the gift of music in both liturgical and performance settings.
In addition, choir members play an important role in our school community by assisting in the planning and leading of student Masses, helping to enhance our liturgical celebrations through music and prayerful participation.
Art
SFA’s Elementary Art Program nurtures creativity, imagination, and self-expression in students from the earliest grades. Under the guidance of our talented art teacher, Mrs. Margie Thais, students are introduced to a wide range of artistic techniques, media, and concepts that help them explore their unique God-given creativity.
Through hands-on projects in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, students learn the elements and principles of design while building fine motor skills and confidence in their artistic abilities. Lessons are often connected to seasonal themes, literature, and cultural studies, allowing students to make meaningful connections across the curriculum.
The art program encourages students to observe the world around them, think creatively, and express themselves with confidence. Student artwork is proudly displayed throughout the school, celebrating the creativity and individuality of every child.
Theater
Each year, SFA proudly presents a school-wide musical production that showcases the incredible talents of our students. Directed by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Chelsea Negray-Piecuch, this annual tradition brings together students for an enriching experience in the performing arts.
What makes this production especially unique is that it is entirely produced by our middle school students. From stage management, costumes, lighting, and tech crew, students take ownership of every aspect of the show. This hands-on involvement provides valuable leadership opportunities while fostering creativity, collaboration, and responsibility. The musical is a highlight of the school year, uniting our community through the joy of music, theater, and storytelling.
