STEM Lab

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.  During the STEM special, students get an opportunity to investigate these topics using hands-on and problem-based activities.  Using the foundation of Design Thinking, students are lead through an organized system of attacking problems and testing their solutions for success.

This is the second year of the STEM class.  Students in first through fifth grades have done many fun and instructional activities.  Some examples include:
  • Designing an object for a fictitious character
  • Building houses out of paper, and wood to withstand high winds
  • Scratch and Scratch Jr. programming
  • Circuitry with conductive dough, conductive tape, and Makey-makey kits
  • Insect camouflage investigation
  • code.org
  •  Paper engineering
  • Word processing and formatting
  • 2017 Fluor Engineering Challenge
  • Lightbot and Tynker block programming
