Romans 12:6-7 “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;”
I have loved teaching since I was old enough to carry a lunch box. I began teaching by offering summer school in my attic to the neighborhood kids when I was eight years old, and I have never looked back. Shockingly kids actually attended some days sitting through the stifling Memphis heat offering me my first experience of the amazing joy of teaching. After graduating from high school and my attic, I went on to earn a Masters degree from University of Memphis and a teaching certificate from Rhodes College. Upon graduation, I worked in the prison system offering adults the gift of reading. From there I was blessed to be in the role of teacher to my own three children for 12 years before reentering the work force. Since then I have been blessed to teach at Saint Francis since 2004 in the roles of Enhance teacher, 6th Grade PLUS teacher and 8th Grade Algebra teacher. Now as the Assistant Principal and the Director of the PLUS Program, I pray that I honor each child and adult I meet on his/her own academic journey, and that together we forge a path toward a life-long love of learning. I consider it an honor and privilege to be a part of such a wonderful school and to represent students who couple their natural intelligence with diligence, tenacity, and grit as they work to overcome academic obstacles.
