Library
General Information

The SFA Library media center supports and enhances the school’s curriculum with a collection of materials and media that meets the needs of the students and faculty. In addition, the library has fifteen computers that students and faculty can utilize for research; take Accelerated Reader quizzes; or search our Online Public Access Catalog.
Our current collection includes more than 13,000 books, audiotapes, CD-ROMS, periodicals, and videos/DVDs. Students and faculty can access the collection from any computer in the school. For additional research needs, computer access is available to the Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL), a reference guide that provides access to full texts and abstracts from magazines and periodicals. We also have the latest online edition of The World Book Encyclopedia on the desktop of every computer.
Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is an individualized computer reading management program that encourages reading, increases reading comprehension and tracks progress. Students read books at their own appropriate level and are then tested on their comprehension of the books by taking the computer quizzes. Students may quiz in the library or their classrooms. There is a link to AR Book Finder from our website where a search for Accelerated Reading material can be done using the title, author, and/or reading level of a book. The SFACS Library has the online version of AR. This provides the students the opportunity to take a quiz on almost all books that are available to them including purchased books and other library books. Individual teachers of reading or literature determine what role Accelerated Reader testing plays in their classrooms. The SFA Library supports the AR program by awarding gold, silver, or bronze medals for a set amount of points in each grade level from second to sixth grade at the end of the year.
Library Policies and Hours
Students in Kindergarten to fifth grade are allowed to keep their book for seven days. Students in grades sixth through eighth grade are allowed to keep their book for a longer period of time. No overdue fees are charged. However, for books that are lost or damaged, the charge is the price of a replacement book. Report cards are withheld for students failing to take responsibility for lost or damaged books at the end of the year.
Library Hours
The SFA Library is open from 7:30 am to 3:15 pm Monday through Friday. After school hours are available on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday until 3:30 pm.
