8th Grade Algebra, Physical Science, and 6th Grade Math Teacher

Welcome to 8th-grade Math/Algebra, Physicial Science, and 6th grade Math! I am Donna Hosp and have been blessed to teach at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School since 2010. I have taught 8th grade for the past 8 years and feel I found my perfect home away from home.

I moved to Memphis with my husband and oldest daughter in 2003.  We moved from Columbia, Missouri--Go MIZZOU!!! Soon after moving here, we became a family of 4.  Both of my daughters began SFA in kindergarten, and continued their high school education at SBA. I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia after graduating from Lafayette High School. In 1994, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences with an emphasis on Personal Finance. In 1995, I went back to school full-time to earn my Middle School Teacher Certification in Math and Science for grades 5-9. I then earned my Master of Arts in Education from Maryville University in St. Louis in 1999, after completing my thesis on differentiated instruction.

8th-grade Algebra was a turning point for me when I recall my math experiences. Math finally began to make sense because the emphasis shifted from just getting answers to an intricate process that continued to build on itself. I emphasize problem-solving instead of answer getting in my 8th-grade math classes. My goal each year is for the students to be confident in their capabilities to work math problems. I love the middle school aged student and I love what I teach!

In addition to teaching at SFA, I sponsor the Beta Club and National Junior Honor Society, co-sponsor the 8th grade Student Advisory Board, and am the program coordinator for the Washington D.C. trip.
